Buzz Peterson fired by Seahawks

UNC Wilmington has fired head coach Buzz Peterson, the school announced Tuesday afternoon.

Peterson has spent the past four seasons with the Seahawks and leaves with a 42-82 overall mark.

UNC Wilmington finished the regular-season 9-23 and in last place in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 3-13 record.

Peterson is a North Carolina grad who has made numerous stops in his coaching career. He began with a four-year stint at Appalachian State, spent one season at Tulsa, then was at Tennessee for four seasons. He then went to Coastal Carolina from 2005 to 2007, spent a couple years as the director of player personnel for the Charlotte Bobcats before returning to Appalachian State for a second stint. He was 24-13 in one season before taking the UNCW job in 2010.

UNC Wilmington has made assistant Eddie Biedenbach the interim coach while the school conducts a national search for Peterson's replacement.
