Maryland starting point guard Seth Allen will transfer after receiving his release Friday, the university announced.
"I had a great two years there," Allen said. "And I'm thankful for the opportunity, but I also feel as though it's time for me to move on."
Allen said he does not have any specific schools in mind. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 13.4 points and 3.0 assists in nearly 30 minutes per game last season after missing the first 12 contests with a broken foot.
Coach Mark Turgeon wished Allen the best in a statement released by the school.
"I've grown close to Seth and his family over the past few years, so I am disappointed he has decided to leave Maryland," he said. "I wish Seth the best."
Allen's departure is the latest defection in College Park. He joins Roddy Peters, Shaq Cleare and Nick Faust in leaving the program since the end of the season. Cleare has signed with Texas and Faust has landed at Oregon State.
Maryland was 17-15 last season and 9-9 in the ACC, but the Terps will add a five-man recruiting class that is ranked eighth in the country. Look for Romelo Trimble (ESPN, No. 29) to get a shot at running the point as a freshman. Dez Wells can also play some point.
Turgeon will also add wing Dion Wiley (ESPN, No. 52), big men Trayvon Reed (ESPN, No. 68) and Michal Cekovsky, and wing Jared Nickens.
