Guard Raphael Davis (knee) nears return for Boilermakers

After missing the last three games due to a knee injury for No. 11 Purdue, guard Rapheal Davis, the reigning Big Ten defensive player of the year, will return sometime this week, coach Matt Painter told ESPN on Sunday.

The Boilermakers (8-0) will face IUPUI on Monday, Howard on Wednesday and Youngstown State on Saturday. Painter said he expects Davis, who is averaging 11.6 points per game, to return in one of those matchups.

Davis hasn't played since suffering a sprained MCL in practice on Nov. 25.

"I think he returns this week," Painter said. "I just don't know when."

Painter said Davis would have played in Saturday's victory over New Mexico in West Lafayette if it had been an NCAA tournament game.

"He's getting better," Painter said.
