Mississippi State freshman guard Malik Newman will withdraw from the NBA draft, his father told ESPN.
Horatio Webster declined to comment, but multiple sources told ESPN that Newman will strongly consider transferring to another Division I school.
Newman was a highly touted prep player at Callaway High in Jackson, Mississippi, and was ranked 10th in the Class of 2015 by ESPN. He chose to stay close to home and play for Ben Howland at Mississippi State despite receiving offers from the likes of Kentucky and Kansas.
Newman averaged 11.3 points per game this past season for the Bulldogs, but a source close to the situation told ESPN that he was "unhappy with his role and how he was utilized."
