Miami freshman Dewan Huell charged with battery

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Freshman forward Dewan Huell of the Miami men's basketball team is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after police say he attacked someone who was in his ex-girlfriend's dorm room.

Huell, 19, was arrested Tuesday by police at Florida International University, where Huell's ex-girlfriend is a student. Court records show Huell was released on $1,500 bond.

Huell was a McDonald's All-American last season at Miami Norland High. He was one of the top-rated recruits in the country. He averaged 16.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior.

Miami officials say they are still gathering information about the incident. It was unknown if Huell has an attorney.

Huell and the Hurricanes open their season at home on Nov. 11 against Western Carolina.
