Vanderbilt's Festus Ezeli sprains knee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vanderbilt senior center Festus Ezeli will miss six to eight weeks after spraining ligaments in his right knee in practice.

The Commodores, ranked No. 7, announced the injury Friday afternoon.

Ezeli was hurt Tuesday in practice, but the Commodores say he will not need surgery to repair the MCL and PCL in his knee.

Vanderbilt already was set to play the first six games without Ezeli, who was suspended by the NCAA for accepting a free meal and hotel room from an alumnus this summer.

That suspension ends after Vanderbilt plays Monmouth on Nov. 25, so Ezeli will be able to return if he heals faster than anticipated.
