Former Sacramento Kings and New Mexico State coach Reggie Theus will be the next coach at Cal State Northridge, multiple sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.
Theus replaces Bobby Braswell at the Big West school.
Theus has been trying to get back into college coaching the past two years. He was a finalist at his alma mater a year ago but was passed over by Dave Rice for the UNLV job.
Theus brings one of the brand names back to Southern California with his success in the NBA as a player and during his two-year stint with the Aggies.
Theus had been coaching in the D-League the past year for the L.A. Defenders.
This is the third hire within the Big West in a week. Pacific officially named Ron Verlin as the replacement to the retiring Bob Thomason, while Cal State Fullerton hired Arizona State assistant coach Dedrique Taylor to replace interim coach Andy Newman, who had been coaching the Titans in place of the fired Bob Burton.
