Fresno State sophomore forward Braeden Anderson was involved in a serious car accident, and while his playing status for the season remains uncertain, his aunt told ESPN.com he is expected to make a full recovery.
The incident, according to a source, occurred at 9:46 p.m. Tuesday evening in Fresno, Calif. Anderson was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver, walk-on Kyle Jackson, did not sustain any significant injuries, attempted to avoid an oncoming accident and wound up colliding with another vehicle, the source said.
One man was killed in the accident, according to the Fresno Bee.
Anderson suffered neck injuries but does have movement in all of his extremities, sources told ESPN.com. He remains hospitalized.
"He's obviously been through a difficult situation and he's held up good," Fresno coach Rodney Terry told the Fresno Bee. "Obviously we're all devastated at what happened, but we're blessed to have Braeden in our presence. What he went through and another one of the players on our team went through, we're just blessed to have them. It could have been a different outcome."
The 6-foot-9 Anderson is a Canadian who did not qualify to play at Kansas as a freshman. He transferred to Fresno State and played the final 10 games last year for the Bulldogs, starting seven and averaging 4.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest.
Anderson was expected to be a major piece of the team for this season, especially with the departure of talented and highly touted big man Robert Upshaw, who was dismissed from the team for multiple violations of athletic department policy.
