Louisville's Kevin Ware participated in his first full-contact practice on Sunday and could play in the Cardinals' season opener on Saturday.
Louisville coach Rick Pitino told ESPN.com following the practice that Ware looked "very good" and "had no hesitation."
Pitino said Ware will be in uniform for the team's season opener on Saturday against the College of Charleston, but it's still uncertain whether he'll play.
"He went through everything today," Pitino said. "And for someone who hasn't played since March, he looked very good."
Ware suffered an open fracture to his right leg during Louisville's NCAA tournament regional final against Duke in March. He had been hoping to be cleared for full contact about 10 days ago, but team trainer Fred Hina and Pitino have been cautious about bringing Ware back too quickly.
Ware had been doing individual instruction, and had been participating in certain portions of practice -- almost all of them not involving any contact. He told ESPN.com that he was experiencing soreness but no pain in his surgically repaired leg.
"I'm ready for contact," Ware told ESPN.com two weeks ago. "I just want to get my feet wet and see where I'm at."
Ware likely will be a role player -- as he was a year ago -- this season for the Cardinals. Although Pitino lost veteran point guard Peyton Siva off last season's national title team, Louisville brought in junior college standout Chris Jones and freshman Terry Rozier -- who are both clearly in front of Ware in terms of playing time. The Cardinals are loaded on the perimeter, and also have wings Luke Hancock and Wayne Blackshear.
