Louisville never mounted a serious challenge after Minnesota built a 19-point second-half lead, allowing the Gophers to coast to a 86-76 victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Des Moines. The Cardinals narrowed the deficit to seven points with 2 minutes left, but they never got any closer. The Gophers got 24 points, including five three-pointers, from freshman Gabe Kalscheur. Minnesota moves on to play the winner of the Michigan State-Bradley game on Saturday.

After a slow shooting start, Minnesota heated up to take a 38-33 lead at halftime over Louisville. The Gophers are shooting 50 percent, including 6-of-15 from three. One thing to watch in the second half: Minnesota's five starters have each played at least 18 minutes. Will the Gophers wear down?

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

More than eight minutes into the game, Minnesota has yet to go to its bench, which isn't surprising. The Gophers are without injured forward Eric Curry and center Matz Stockman. The Gophers lead Louisvlle 12-11 at the second media timeout.
