BBTN: Hot Brewers, Rendon's MVP Push, Severino

Buster and Dave Schoenfield discuss how the Brewers have responded since the Christian Yelich injury, as well as Cody Bellinger's drop-off and Anthony Rendon's surge in the race for NL MVP (9:48). They also talk about a few of the question marks surrounding the Dodgers. Then, Sarah Langs and "The Numbers Game" (32:15).

Tests on Darnell Savage's shin showed just a bone contusion, his agent Seth Katz told ESPN. Expect a light week of on-field activity, but the rookie starting safety is preparing as if he will play Sunday against the Broncos. The 21st pick in the draft is off to a fast start for the Packers and doesn't want to slow his momentum.

Yelich talks injury: 'Had my pity party that night'

Reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich says his fractured kneecap is the first "real injury" he's had in his life, adding, "It seems to be one of those things that's not fair at the moment ... I had my pity party that night at the stadium and I felt terrible."

Packers S Raven Greene, who was placed on injured reserve today, is most likely going to need ankle surgery, a source said.

The Packers have claimed CB Tremon Smith off waivers from the Chiefs and placed S Raven Greene (ankle) on injured reserve. A sixth-round pick in 2018, he played in 14 games as a rookie and in the season opener this year before he was released last week. He played just 74 snaps on defense last season and the Chiefs experimented with moving to running back this offseason before he returned to defense. He played mostly on special teams last year and averaged 26.8 yards on 33 kickoff returns.

Ideally, the Packers would have inside linebacker Oren Burks back this week to help offset the loss of safety/hybrid ILB Raven Greene (ankle), but it sounds like Burks is still in the rehab mode with his torn pectoral muscle. He said he's “just trying to get my strength back up now” and all the work he's done has been kept “within the (limited) range of motion.” When asked if he could return to practice this week, Burks said he was awaiting word from the medical staff. “I'm just blessed to be able to come back and hit the rehab hard and have hopes of coming back pretty soon,” said Burks, who initially thought his injury was season-ending.

With safety/hybrid ILB Raven Greene (ankle) out indefinitely, it's reasonable to ask whether ILB Oren Burks is any closer to returning from the torn pec he sustained in the preseason, but coach Matt LaFleur wasn't offering any hints as to whether Burks would be able to practice this week. "You'll find out on Wednesday," LaFleur said.

It hasn't taken long for Preston Smith and Za'Darius Smith to figure out how to play off one another. Standing in the middle of the Packers locker room after Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings, the two outside linebackers were asked how much fun they're having with their new team. Here's how they answered (together, of course):

The Packers had the 12th-highest blitz rate (26.1 percent) last season. If their four-man rush keeps producing, Mike Pettine might not have to blitz as much. The Packers generated two interceptions and held Kirk Cousins to 48 percent passing when sending four or fewer pass rushers Sunday, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Here's a look at the difference in their four-man rush through two games this season compared to last year:

Rodgers, LaFleur downplay 'animated' exchange

Both Packers coach Matt LaFleur and quarterback Aaron Rodgers downplayed their animated sideline interaction on Sunday, with LaFleur characterizing the exchange as "just two competitive guys" in the "heat of the moment."

Darnell Savage, who left the locker room in a boot, got kicked in the shin and is not believed to have a serious injury, a source said. The Packers will put the rookie safety through some additional tests on Monday just to make sure.
