OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Gil Heredia is having a resurgence along with the rest of the Oakland Athletics. Heredia, who lost his first four starts of the season, gave up only one run on four hits over six innings as Oakland beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 for its fourth straight victory. "I can pitch. I know I can pitch," he said. "The bottom line is to stay consistent." The A's as a whole are becoming more consistent. Coming off a sweep of the New York Yankees, Oakland has won 11 of its last 15 games after opening the season 8-18. Heredia (3-5) lowered his team-high ERA from 8.92 to 7.84. He struck out three and walked two. "Gil did a great job tonight," A's manager Art Howe said. "He gave us exactly what we needed." Closer Jason Isringhausen loaded the bases with none out in the ninth and allowed a run on Paul Konerko's double-play grounder. But he got Jeff Liefer to pop out and earned his sixth save. The White Sox, coming off a sweep by the Seattle Mariners, now have their fifth four-game losing streak of the season. Chicago had three such slides all last year. "We had some shots, even in the ninth," Chicago manager Jerry Manuel said. "We had guys up who have been clutch hitters. Not getting anything out of it, it's kind of discouraging." Kip Wells (0-1) was making his first start of the season after five appearances in relief. He allowed three runs on five hits over five innings, with four walks and three strikeouts. Wells had not given up a run in 12 2/3 innings until Miguel Tejada homered over the right-center wall to spark a three-run fourth inning. Adam Piatt followed with a single, Robin Jennings walked and Ramon Hernandez added an infield single to load the bases for Johnny Damon, who also walked, scoring Piatt. Jennings scored on Frank Menechino's sacrifice fly to put the A's up 3-0. "The only frustrating thing is walking the guy in. I was trying to be too fine or something," Wells said. Heredia did not allow a baserunner to advance past first through six innings. In the seventh, he gave up a single to Magglio Ordonez and walked Harold Baines before being replaced by Jim Mecir. Mecir hit Konerko with a pitch to load the bases, and Ordonez scored on Liefer's double-play grounder to make it 3-1. "Those double-play balls came in handy tonight," Howe said. "That was key, being able to get those double play balls and minimize the damage." Reigning AL MVP Jason Giambi served as Oakland's designated hitter, while Jennings played for him at first base. Jennings was brought up from Triple-A Sacramento by the A's on Wednesday. Game notesWith his single in the seventh, Ordonez extended his hitting streak to nine games. ... The White Sox have been swept five times in 13 series this season. Chicago was swept twice in 2000. ... The A's designated C Sal Fasano for assignment and recalled C Tom Wilson from Triple-A Sacramento. Fasano was batting .048 (1-for-21) in 11 games with the A's. ... A's DH Olmedo Saenz, who missed the series against the Yankees because he was in Panama to be with his wife for the birth of their second child, returned to Oakland on Friday. He didn't play. | OTHER GAMES Baseball Scoreboard Chi. White Sox Clubhouse Oakland Clubhouse RECAPS Baltimore 7 Minnesota 2
