Tosca to ask Scioscia to sit Halladay

Associated Press

TORONTO -- Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca doesn't want Toronto's Roy Halladay to pitch in the All-Star Game.

Halladay will be working on three days rest Saturday against the first-place New York Yankees. He also is scheduled to start against second-place Boston on July 17 -- in Toronto's first game after the break.

Tosca said Tuesday that he'll call AL manager Mike Scioscia and ask him not to pitch Halladay.

"Roy's fine with it,'' Tosca said. "He's coming off short rest.''

Halladay entered Tuesday night's game against Boston having won 12 straight decisions and pitched well, but got a no-decision in Toronto's 2-1 loss in 12 innings. He's 12-2 with a 3.48 ERA.

"It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is,'' Tosca said.

Scioscia will decide whether Esteban Loaiza, Jaime Moyer, Mark Mulder, C.C. Sabathia or Barry Zito will start for the AL.
