The Pittsburgh Pirates are targeting high school pitcher Jameson Taillon with the second pick in Monday night's Major League Baseball entry draft, sources have told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
The Washington Nationals, who hold the No. 1 pick, are widely assumed to be taking catcher Bryce Harper.
Taillon, from The Woodlands in Texas, is a 6-foot-6, 225-pounder right-hander who has hit 98 mph on the radar gun this season. According to ESPN draft analyst Keith Law, Taillon is the hardest-throwing pitcher among the top prep arms this year. Taillon is No. 2 in Law's draft rankings.
The draft begins with the first round and compensatory picks at 7 p.m. ET.
