Orioles release RHP Bones; recall RHP Linton

BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- If Ricky Bones continues his major league career, it will be with his seventh team.

The Baltimore Orioles released Bones today and recalled pitcher Doug Linton from Triple-A Rochester of the International League.

Bones, 30, was 0-3 with a 5.98 ERA in 31 games, including two starts, this season. He was signed by the Orioles as a free agent on December 21, 1998 after spending last season with Kansas City. He has also pitched for San Diego, Milwaukee, Cincinnati and the New York Yankees.

Linton, 34, was 7-5 with a 3.65 ERA in 18 games for Rochester. He made eight appearances, including two starts, for the Orioles earlier this season. Linton is scheduled to start the opener of a day-night doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.
