CHICAGO White Sox first baseman Frank Thomas left Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners with a strained right triceps and is day to day.
The Mariners were batting with two outs and the bases loaded in the second inning when Ichiro Suzuki hit a grounder to first base. Thomas dove full-extension to his left and landed on his right arm. Thomas could not come up with the grounder, which was scored a double, and remained lying on his stomach for about a minute. White Sox trainer Herm Schneider was called, and massaged Thomas' triceps and elbow for a few moments before Thomas left the field. Herbert Perry, who had been playing third base, moved to first and Tony Graffanino replaced Thomas in the lineup and played third. Thomas, 0-for-1 on the night, is struggling this year with a .221 average, four homers and 10 RBI in 68 at-bats. Friday night was only the third time this year Thomas, normally the DH, has played first base.
