CHICAGO It appears the Chicago White Sox are about to lose another key player for the year. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that left-hander Jim Parque will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday to repair an injured labrum in his left shoulder. Parque, who lost three of his five decisions this year, went on the disabled list on April 27 with inflammation in his shoulder. It was one day after he was bombed for seven runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings by the Oakland Athletics. In five starts in 2001, the 25-year-old Parque is 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA. He did toss a complete game against Minnesota on April 20, but absorbed the loss after allowing four runs and seven hits with six strikeouts. The dismal start followed an impressive 2000 season for Parque in which the former UCLA star was 13-6 with a 4.28 ERA. Chicago, which won the American League Central last year, is off to a disappointing 12-20 start and on Thursday learned that first baseman-designated hitter Frank Thomas will likely miss the rest of the campaign with a torn muscle in his arm.
