PHILADELPHIA -- Scott Rolen isn't sure if he has a future with the Philadelphia Phillies. "I don't feel as welcome in the organization as I have in the past," Rolen said Wednesday night. Rolen was responding to comments made by Dallas Green, senior adviser to general manager Ed Wade. "Scotty is satisfied with being a so-so player and he's not a great player," Green said Monday on WIP radio. "In his mind, he probably thinks he's doing OK, but the fans in Philadelphia know otherwise." Rolen, who averaged more than 25 homers in each of his first four seasons, had 11 entering Wednesday's game against San Diego. He was moved out of the cleanup spot two weeks ago. Earlier in the season, Rolen had heated words with Larry Bowa after the manager criticized the middle of the order, singling out his third baseman. "Scotty is a complex guy," Green said. "He makes himself look silly at times with some of the stuff he says. I think he can be greater, but his personality won't let him." Rolen is in the final year of a $10 million, four-year deal he signed after winning the NL Rookie of the Year award in 1997. "We'll just have to wait and see what happens in the offseason," Rolen said. |
