DENVER -- Colorado Rockies pitcher Mike Hampton underwent surgery Tuesday to release tissue surrounding the adductor muscle in his left groin area.

The team said Dr. William Meyers performed the procedure at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. Hampton is expected to recover in time for the opening of spring training camp in February.

The 29-year-old left-hander led the Rockies with 14 victories in 32 starts after signing with Colorado as a free agent last year.
