Byrnes to replace Justice on Oakland's roster

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland Athletics placed outfielder David Justice on the disabled list before Wednesday night's game against the Boston Red Sox because of a right groin strain.

Justice was originally injured April 24 against the New York Yankees and missed eight straight games.

He returned to the lineup Saturday, but aggravated the injury Tuesday night while running the bases. Justice is hitting .301 with four homers and 11 RBI this season.

To take his place, the A's recalled outfielder Eric Byrnes from Triple-A Sacramento. Byrnes spent part of last season on the Oakland roster. He was batting .261 with four homers and 16 RBI for the RiverCats.
