HOUSTON -- Houston Astros right fielder Richard Hidalgo is recovering after being shot in the left forearm during a carjacking in Venezuela.

The Houston Chronicle reported Friday that the 27-year-old player will arrive in Houston on Sunday for tests with team doctors.

The shooting happened Thursday, and Hidalgo was reported to be resting at his home in Valencia, Venezuela.

The Chronicle quoted people who've spoken with Hidalgo as saying he suffered a muscle wound that did not damage tendons or ligaments. He has feeling in his left hand and use of his hand and his arm.

Hidalgo spent the final six weeks of the season on the disabled list or injured and unable to play because of a hip strain.
