1970 June 30 -- Hank Aaron hits first Riverfront homer as Atlanta beat Cincinnati 8-2 in the stadium opener 8-2.
July 14 -- Pete Rose bowls over Ray Fosse, giving the National League a 5-4, 12-inning victory in front of an All-Star game crowd of 51,838.
Sept. 20 -- Cincinnati Bengals beat Oakland 31-21 in their first game at the stadium.
Oct. 10 -- Baltimore Orioles win the first World Series game on artificial turf. 1974
April 4 -- Aaron ties Babe Ruth by hitting homer No. 714 on opening day. 1978 May 5 -- Rose gets hit No. 3,000.
June 16 -- Tom Seaver pitches his only no-hitter.
July 18 -- Rose hits in a club-record 31st straight game.
Oct. 1 -- Reds close season with a 10-8, 14-inning win over Atlanta in Sparky Anderson's last game as manager and Rose's last with Reds until 1984. 1979 June 1 -- Rose returns to Riverfront with the Phillies, and the Reds unofficially retire his No. 14. 1980 July 4 -- Nolan Ryan gets his 3,000th career strikeout. 1982 Jan. 3 -- Bengals beat Buffalo 28-21 for their first playoff win in team history.
Jan. 10 -- In a wind chill of 59 degrees below zero, the Bengals beat the San Diego Chargers 27-7 in the AFC championship game, advancing to their first Super Bowl. 1983 Sept. 17 -- On Johnny Bench night, the catcher hits a game-tying, two-run homer. 1984 Aug. 17 -- Rose returns as player-manager, starts at first base, singles, makes a headfirst slide into third and has an RBI double in a 6-4 win. 1985 Sept. 11 -- Rose gets a first-inning single to break Ty Cobb's mark with hit No. 4,192 in 2-0 win over Padres. 1986 Aug. 14 -- Rose gets hit No. 4,256th, the last of his career, in 2-0 win over Giants.
Aug. 17 -- Rose plays in his last game, a 9-6 loss to Padres. 1988 Sept. 16 --Tom Browning pitches a perfect game over the Dodgers. 1989 Jan. 8 --Bengals beat Buffalo 21-10 to advance to their second Super Bowl.
Aug. 24 -- Rose accepts his lifetime ban from baseball for gambling. 1990 Sept. 29 -- The Reds clinch a division title during a rain delay. 1993 April 5 -- The Reds win the season opener 2-1 over the Expos in Tony Perez's first game as manager and Schott's first game under her first suspension from baseball. 1996 April 1 -- Home plate umpire John McSherry collapses and dies seven pitches into the season opener.
Sept. 9 -- The stadium is renamed Cinergy Field. 1997 Sept. 1 -- Pete Rose Jr. singles as his dad watches from stands. Dec. 4 -- Bengals' Corey Dillon runs for 246 yards against Tennessee, breaking Jim Brown's NFL rookie rushing record. 1999 Oct. 4 -- Reds lose the NL wild-card playoff to the Mets. Dec. 12 -- Bengals beat the Browns 44-28, winning the last NFL game at Cinergy Field. 2000 Aug. 1 -- Demolition begins on parts of left and center field stands. 2002 Sept. 21-22 -- Reds get swept by Philadelphia in final series. Sept. 23 -- More than 40,000 fans see Rose play in a softball game in the last event at the stadium. Dec. 29 --Stadium is imploded. |
