Greene says prisoner is wife's cousin

Associated Press

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The pilot of an Apache attack helicopter shot down over Iraq and taken prisoner is a relative of Texas Rangers catcher Todd Greene.

Chief Warrant Officer Ron Young, 27, is from the Army's 1st Battalion of the 227th Aviation Regiment out of Fort Hood, Texas.

"He's my wife's cousin, but we've been together 17 years, so he is part of my family," Greene said while walking to the clubhouse following Thursday's morning practice. "Her mom first found out about it from the TV. We knew he was missing, but then the government called her mother to let us know he is a POW."

Greene said he learned about Young's status during a game, after Texas manager Buck Showalter pulled him out and told him to call his wife.

"We're all real close, so this has been a shock, but I trust George Bush and I trust our government to bring him home," Greene said.
