Giles to have MRI exam on right knee

Associated Press

CHICAGO -- Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Brian Giles was scheduled to have an MRI exam on his right knee Friday, a day after twisting it in a game against Milwaukee.

Giles injured the knee trying to stretch a single into a double during the fifth inning of Thursday's victory, team spokesman Jim Trdinich said. The outfielder finished the game and was examined by team doctors afterward.

Giles awoke with tenderness in the knee Friday, and he was taken to a hospital.

He was to miss Friday's game and his status was day-to-day thereafter, Trdinich said.
