MILWAUKEE -- The New York Mets placed struggling slugger Mo Vaughn on the 15-day disabled list Saturday and recalled catcher Jason Phillips from Triple-A Norfolk.

Vaughn was sidelined with inflammation in his left knee. The big first baseman is batting just .190 with three homers and a team-leading 15 RBI. He has made five errors.

Phillips was up with the Mets earlier this season, getting one hit in five at-bats.

Tony Clark will likely get most of the work at first base in the absence of Vaughn. Clark hit a monster homer during Saturday's loss to the Brewers.
