Rules had barred Shields from clubhouse

SAN FRANCISCO -- Harvey Shields, the personal stretch man for slugger Barry Bonds, has been hired by the San Francisco Giants as part of the medical staff.

Shields had been banned from the clubhouse during spring
training, when baseball began cracking down on who was allowed in
clubhouses following a federal steroids probe that focuses on
Bonds' personal trainer, Greg Anderson, one of four men indicted on
charges of illegal distribution of steroids.

"I never stopped [working]," Shields said as he pulled on a
Giants windbreaker, wearing an employee badge around his neck.

Shields has frequented the clubhouse since 2000. He stretches
out the six-time NL MVP before games.

Anderson pleaded not guilty. Bonds has denied taking illegal steroids.
