HOUSTON -- Houston Astros left-hander Andy Pettitte will miss his
scheduled start Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs to give his strained forearm more time to heal.
Team officials said Friday that Pettitte should be ready for his next turn, June 7 at Seattle.
Pettitte hurt his left forearm while pitching in the fourth
inning of Wednesday night's game against the Cubs. He was clearly
distressed by the end of the fourth, wincing in pain as he walked off the mound to end the inning.
He allowed one run and two hits in four innings with four strikeouts.
Right-hander Brandon Duckworth will start in place of Pettitte
against the Cubs on Tuesday.
It's the second time this season that Pettitte has hurt his left arm.
He strained his left elbow while trying to check a swing in his
debut with the Astros on April 6 against San Francisco and missed
the next three weeks.
Left elbow problems also sent him to the disabled list from
April 21 to June 14, 2002, when he was out with tendinitis.
Pettitte signed a $31.5 million, three-year contract with
Houston in December after nine years with the New York Yankees. He
is 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA.
