Marlins-Mets to start early to facilitate Cubs makeup

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins moved the start time of
Thursday's game against the New York Mets up two hours, clearing
the way for a possible doubleheader Friday in Chicago.

The game between the Mets and Marlins on Thursday will be played
at 1:05 p.m. ET.

The Marlins postponed a three-game weekend series against the
Cubs because of Hurricane Frances. The games have not been
rescheduled, but the Marlins and Cubs were considering playing one
of them in Chicago this weekend. The Marlins would lose a home
game, but probably get to bat last at Wrigley Field.

Team officials declined to say whether a doubleheader is being
planned for Friday.

By making the change against the Mets, it would give the Marlins
more time off before Friday's potential doubleheader.

The remaining two postponed games likely will be played Monday,
Sept. 20 -- the only common day off for the two clubs.

The Marlins trailed the Cubs by 2½ games in the race for the NL
wild card.
