Royals manager misses game to attend service

SEATTLE -- Kansas City Royals manager Buddy Bell missed
Monday night's game against the Seattle Mariners to attend services
at Arlington National Cemetery for his nephew, a Marine killed in
Iraq.
Lance Cpl. Tim Bell Jr. was killed by a roadside bomb this
month.
The Royals were swept at home by Detroit in a doubleheader
Sunday, leaving them with a franchise-record 15 consecutive losses.
Bell hopes to be back in the dugout for Tuesday night's game
against the Mariners.
Bench coach Bob Schaefer took over for Bell on Monday night.
Schaefer was the team's interim manager for a short time this
season after Tony Pena resigned on May 10.
