LAS VEGAS -- The San Diego Padres put center fielder Mike
Cameron on the disabled list Saturday as they trimmed their active
roster to the 25-man limit.
Cameron strained his left oblique muscle during batting practice
Friday night, and sat out the Padres two exhibition games in Las
Vegas against the Chicago Cubs. He was put on the 15-day DL,
retroactive to March 31.
First baseman Ryan Klesko and reliever Doug Brocail will also
begin the season on the disabled list.
Klesko was placed on the DL retroactive to March 26 with a
strained left shoulder and Brocail retroactive to March 24.
Brocail had angioplasty to clear a blocked heart artery on March
11 and is out indefinitely.
Pitcher Ryan Sweeney made the 25-man roster, and had his
contract purchased from Triple-A Portland.
Outfielder Ben Johnson also made the opening-day roster, along
with pitcher Brian Sweeney.
Pitcher Eric Junge, third baseman Justin Leone and outfielder
Eric Valent were reassigned to Portland.
