SEATTLE -- Ray Allen broke the NBA record for 3-pointers in
a season on Wednesday night in the second quarter of the Seattle SuperSonics' regular-season finale against the playoff-bound Denver Nuggets.
Allen, a six-time All-Star guard, gave Seattle a 48-28 lead with
his sixth 3-pointer of the game with 6:30 left, his 268th of the
season. He broke the previous mark of 267 set by Dennis Scott in
the 1995-96 season.
Allen sank five 3-pointers in the first quarter.
After Allen broke the league record, the game was stopped and
referee Jack Nies presented him with the ball. The crowd wildly
cheered Allen.
