Pujols ties Helton for second fastest to 1,000 hits

ST. LOUIS -- Albert Pujols tied Todd Helton for the
second-fastest active player to reach 1,000 hits, hitting a two-run
homer in the first inning against Chicago on Friday night.

Pujols and Helton needed 3,003 at-bats. Ichiro Suzuki is the
fastest to the milestone, requiring 2,977 at-bats.

Pujols' 11th home run also set a franchise record for April, one
more than Mark McGwire hit in his 70-homer season in 1998, with
nine games to spare.
