Tatis back in big leagues, called up by Orioles

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Baltimore Orioles purchased the contract of third baseman Fernando Tatis from Triple-A Ottawa on Friday.

Tatis hit .298 with seven homers and 37 RBI in 90 games for Ottawa this season. He has a career average of .261 with 90 home runs in 663 major league games.

To make room for Tatis, the Orioles outrighted utility player Howie Clark to Ottawa. Clark went 1-for-7 in seven games after being called up from Ottawa on June 16.

Baltimore also recalled pitcher Hayden Penn from his rehab assignment and optioned him to Ottawa. Penn underwent an emergency appendectomy on May 23.
