A's increase contract offer to Thomas to two years

In a move that could help push discussions toward an agreement, the Oakland Athletics on Thursday increased their offer to Frank Thomas to two years, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney is reporting.

Thomas has been seeking a two-year deal, but the team's most recent offer prior to Thursday had been for a one-year deal, plus an option year.

The two-year offer made Thursday would be worth $6 million, with incentives that could lift it to $8 million.

Thomas batted .270 with 39 homers and 114 RBI this season. Thomas hit two solo homers in Oakland's 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins in Game 1 of their AL Division Series on Tuesday.
