Rangers sign catcher Quiroz and two pitchers to deals

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers on Thursday announced
the signing of catcher Guillermo Quiroz to a major league contract
and a pair of right-handed pitchers to minor league deals.

Right-handers Mike Wood and Willie Eyre both got invitations to
major league spring training as part of their deals.

Quiroz spent last season in the Seattle organization, hitting
.300 (42-of-140) with eight doubles in 29 games split between
Triple-A Tacoma and Double-A San Antonio. He was acquired by the
Mariners on a waiver claim from Toronto before the 2006 season and
was 0-for-2 in his only game for Seattle.

Wood was originally obtained by Texas on a waiver claim on Oct.
11, but became a free agent when he wasn't tendered a contract by
Dec. 12. He was 3-3 with a 5.71 ERA in 23 appearances (seven
starts) for Kansas City this year.

Eyre made his major league debut with Minnesota in 2006. In 42
relief appearances, he went 1-0 with a 5.31 ERA.
