MILWAUKEE -- Right-hander Claudio Vargas and the
Milwaukee Brewers agreed Monday to a $2.5 million, one-year contract, halfway
between the $2.85 he had asked for and the $2.15 million the team
had offered.
Vargas, obtained by Milwaukee as part of a six-player deal with
the Arizona Diamondbacks in November, was 12-10 with a 4.83 ERA for
Arizona last season.
Milwaukee has two players remaining in arbitration: utility
infielder/outfielder Bill Hall and catcher Johnny Estrada.
