Freel suffered contusions to his head and neck when he ran into
right fielder Norris Hopper in the third inning of Monday's 4-0 win
over Pittsburgh. Freel lay motionless for several minutes before he
was taken off the field on a stretcher.
The 31-year-old Freel was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in
Cincinnati, where tests on his neck and head came back normal. He
was released from the hospital Tuesday.
Freel will see head and spine specialist Dr. John Brannan on
Wednesday.
Cincinnati called up Dewayne Wise from Triple-A Louisville. The
29-year-old Wise was hitting .256 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs
in 44 games for the Bats this season.
Also Tuesday, outfielder Josh Hamilton joined Louisville to get
playing time while he finishes his stint on the 15-day disabled
list. Hamilton is recovering from an inflamed digestive tract. He's
eligible to be reinstated on Sunday.
