ATLANTA -- Joe Simpson was expected to make a quick return to the Atlanta Braves broadcast booth after having emergency surgery Sunday.
Simpson, part of the Fox Sports Net South broadcast team, missed the Braves-Reds game Sunday after having an appendectomy.
Ron Gant filled in for Simpson as Jon Sciambi's partner in the broadcast booth.
Simpson, in his 17th season as a Braves broadcaster, may return as early as Tuesday, according to another member of the broadcast team, Skip Carey.
"I talked with his wife and he's doing fine," Carey said, adding the surgery lasted only about 10 minutes.
The Braves will be off Monday before opening a home series against San Diego on Tuesday.
