ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Los Angeles Angels placed infielder Chone Figgins on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 4, with a strained right hamstring after losing 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night.
First baseman Kendry Morales was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Figgins' place on the roster.
Figgins is hitting .306 with seven RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 32 games this season, but missed his sixth straight game Saturday.
"He's making progress, but not enough to where you're projecting to play him anytime next week," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
The Angels could get two injured players back in the next few days. Right-hander John Lackey, who won 19 games last season, is set to return from a strained right triceps injury and could make his first start of the season Wednesday. Infielder Maicer Izturis (strained lower back) is scheduled to play in a minor league game Monday and could rejoin the team Tuesday.
