NEW YORK -- There's no debating this: Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will delay a World Series game by several minutes.
Major League Baseball has agreed to move the first pitch of Game 6 of the World Series, if there is one, by about 15 minutes to accommodate a half-hour Obama ad buy on Fox on Oct. 29. The start of the game would be pushed back from 8:20 p.m. ET to 8:35 p.m.
The World Series has not gone to a sixth game since 2003.
The story was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
"Fox will accommodate Senator Obama's desire to communicate with voters in this longform format," Fox Sports said in a statement. "We are pleased that Major League Baseball has agreed to delay the first pitch of World Series Game 6 for a few minutes in order for Fox to carry his program on Oct. 29. If requested, the network would be willing to make similar time available to Senator McCain's campaign."
MLB's consent to let Fox air the ad also allows Fox to rake in at least $1 million in revenue.
The move is not without precedent.
In early September, the NFL moved the kickoff time of the season opener between the Washington Redskins and New York Giants to ensure the game would be completed by the time Sen. John McCain accepted the Republican party's presidential nomination during the national convention.
