Betemit, ChiSox agree to one-year deal

CHICAGO -- Infielder Wilson Betemit and the Chicago White Sox agreed Thursday to a one-year, $1.3 million contract.

Betemit was acquired from New York last month in the trade that sent Nick Swisher to the Yankees.

Betemit was a utility player with the Yankees last season, batting .265 with six homers and 25 RBIs in 87 games. He would see playing time at third base for the White Sox, who have not re-signed free agent Joe Crede.

Betemit, a switch-hitter, also played for the Braves and Dodgers. In 496 games over six seasons, he has batted .260 with 42 homers.
