Longoria, the 2008 AL Rookie of the Year, was scheduled to travel to California on Wednesday for a death in the family, team officials said according to the St. Petersburg Times. He's expected to miss two games and return for Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Longoria leads the majors with five home runs and a .441 batting average. He has hits in each of his first eight games.
Willy Aybar is likely to start at third in place of Longoria, according to the report.
