PITTSBURGH -- The Houston Astros placed pitcher Brian Moehler on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee Wednesday, two days after the right-hander had to leave his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Alberto Arias was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock. The right-hander, who pitched 10 1-3 scoreless innings for Houston in seven spring training appearances, is expected to join the Astros for Thursday's game against the Pirates.
Moehler left his start against the Pirates on Monday after 2 1-3 innings because of discomfort in his knee. A MRI taken on Moehler's knee Tuesday showed sprained medial collateral ligament.
Moehler, who is 0-2 with a 27.00 ERA in two starts this season, is eligible to come off the disabled list on April 29. He was scheduled to start Sunday against Cincinnati. Houston has not picked a replacement.
