Silva headed to DL with forearm strain

PHILADELPHIA -- The San Diego Padres will place right-hander Walter Silver on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm.

Right-hander Josh Geer will be recalled Sunday and start for Silva stead against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Silva was injured batting in the second inning against the Mets on Monday. He collected his first Major League hit in that at-bat.

Padres manager Bud Black says Silva's stay on the DL list could extend beyond 15 days and likened the strain to the one that sidelined pitcher Cha Seung Baek late in Spring Training, forcing him to the disabled list.

Geer is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in two starts with Triple-A Portland. He was 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in five starts for San Diego last year.
