Kinsler returns against Red Sox

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers prepared to open a three-game series against Boston by reinstating second baseman Ian Kinsler from the disabled list.

The Rangers also put slugging outfielder Nelson Cruz on the 15-day DL Friday with a sprained left ankle. The move was retroactive to Aug. 4.

Kinsler went on the DL with a strained left hamstring Aug. 2, retroactive to July 29. He's coming off a two-day injury rehabilitation stint with Double-A Frisco. He's batting .242 with 23 home runs and 63 RBIs.

Cruz is a first-time All-Star batting .269 with 25 homers and 58 RBIs. He injured his ankle on the final play of a loss at Oakland on Aug. 3.
