TOKYO -- Former San Diego Padres second baseman Edgar Gonzalez has signed with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League.
The 31-year-old Gonzalez hit .216 in 82 games for San Diego last season, missing time with a concussion and shoulder injury. He hit .274 with seven homers and 33 RBIs in 2008.
Gonzalez said in a statement on the team's Web site that he's "very excited to play for a team with such a rich tradition."
The Giants won the Japan Series in 2009 and have won the Central League the past three years.
