Mariners sign veteran Wright

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Veteran right-hander Jamey Wright has signed with Seattle Mariners, while former All-Star Chad Cordero declined an option to Triple-A Tacoma and became a free agent.

Seattle announced the signing of the 35-year-old Wright before Thursday night's game at the Los Angeles Angels. He joins his eighth major league team after the Cleveland Indians designated him for assignment last month.

Wright also pitched 10 games for the Oakland Athletics' Triple-A team.

Cordero was selected from Tacoma on June 3 after Ken Griffey Jr. retired. An All-Star closer for the Washington Nationals in 2006, he had been out following right shoulder surgery since April 2008.

The Mariners also selected left-hander Chris Seddon from Tacoma and optioned reliever Sean White to the Rainiers.
