ORLANDO, Fla. -- Jose Contreras and the Philadelphia Phillies are close to a two-year, $5 million agreement, a source told ESPNdeportes.com.
The source also said the deal includes a third-year option and performance incentives.
Contreras, who turns 39 in December, had a career revival in 2010, compiling a 6-4 record with a 3.34 ERA and four saves in 67 appearances with the Phillies. The right-hander struck out 57 and allowed only 16 walks in 56 2/3 innings.
Over his eight-year MLB career, Contreras is 77-67 and 4.55 ERA with the Yankees, White Sox, Rockies and Phillies.
