SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants have placed second baseman Bill Hall on the 15-day disabled list with a left leg laceration, recalling shortstop Mike Fontenot from Triple-A Fresno.
The move Friday comes a day after Hall was spiked in the leg when the San Diego Padres' Jason Bartlett tried to steal second. Hall needed seven stitches to close the deep wound, and he was also seeking the opinion of a plastic surgeon to see if further repair was necessary.
Bartlett was thrown out on the play. San Francisco won 2-1 to split the four-game series.
Hall was released by the Houston Astros and joined the Giants on June 11 after sure-handed second baseman Freddy Sanchez dislocated his right shoulder. Hall is batting .220 with no home runs in 16 games.
