Fred Lynn is the only first-year player to ever win Rookie of the Year and MVP. The Cardinals' Albert Pujols is bidding to become the second.

Ichiro is on pace to get 271 hits on the best team in baseball. Forget him just winning the Rookie of the Year. The MVP buzz has officially started!

Adam Ferrary
Diamond Bar, Calif.

The Twins at No. 2,. Come on now. Nineteen of their wins are against K.C., Detroit and the White Sox. Give them a month and they'll be in their rightful place -- near the bottom. Cleveland will be 10 games up by the All-Star break.

Rick Vancampen
Danvers, Mass.

“ Dodger pitchers have more home runs than Todd Zeile! That should say enough about how bad the Mets' lineup really is. ”
—  Kevin Hill, Scarsdale, N.Y.

I find it hard to believe that the Indians are ranked third. Despite a strong record, they have played zero, yes zero, games against teams .500 or better.

Keith Landgrebe
Eagan, Minn.

Ouch, no 20-K record for Randy and now the D-Backs are 18th? Placing them behind the Tigers, Marlins, and Brewers despite playing in the most competitive division in baseball is a joke. The D-Backs may be getting old, but it looks like you guys are going senile.

Eric Hathaway
Tempe, Ariz.

I recall hearing the laments on local sports talk radio that the Mariners would be in for a challenge facing the A's, Angels and Rangers 20 times each this season. Now I suspect we'll be hearing from M's detractors in a few months. "Yeah, you have the best record in baseball, but that's just 'cuz you played the A's, Angels, and Rangers 20 times each."

Erik Selberg
Seattle

A's, Reds, Marlins, Braves and Tigers all ahead of the Padres? Have you seen San Diego play this season? They are leading the NL in walks and are fifth in runs scored. That doesn't sound like it should add up to a 21st ranking to me.

Peter Friberg
San Diego

“ The Giants win six of seven this week and move up one lousy spot in the rankings? What gives? It must have been you guys who trashed the clubhouse at Pac Bell Park, not Armando Benitez. ”
—  Mike Dahlquist, Walnut Creek, Calif.

"Roberto Alomar is hitting just .299 at home." It's hard to read sarcasm, but I hope that is what you mean. How many players would kill to hit around .300 at home in the majors? I can think of a couple thousand in Triple-A, Double-A and A-ball.

Brian LaPorte
Cleveland

Do Texas and A-Rod a favor and put them in last place. With all the hype and all the expectations coming into the season they are still only a couple games short of the worst record in baseball. At least the Devil Rays were supposed to be this bad.

Derek Rubino
Silverdale, Wash.

Come late June it should be McGwire, Edmonds, Pujols, Drew, and Lankford. For NL Central pitchers, that is a 3-4-5-6-7 from hell.

Matthew Mahaffey
Zeeland, Mich.
